Public award description
CUSTOM ULTRA-LOW EXPANSION OPTICS (ULE) THE MISSION OF THE DIMENSIONAL METROLOGY GROUP IS ULTRA-PRECISE LENGTH MEASUREMENTS, THAT REQUIRE PRECISE KNOWLEDGE OF THE REFRACTIVE INDEX OF AIR WHEN LASER INTERFEROMETRY IS USED FOR MEASUREMENT. NIST IS BUILDING A DEVICE THAT WILL SERVE AS THE ULTIMATE REFERENCE OF REFRACTIVE INDEX. THIS PROCUREMENT RELATES TO THE OPTICS AT THE HEART OF THE DEVICE. NIST PLANS TO BUILD TWO DEVICES WHERE EACH CONSISTS OF 4 FABRY-PEROT INTERFEROMETERS THAT ARE EXTREMELY WELL ALIGNED RELATIVE TO EACH OTHER (WITHIN 1 RAD=0.2 ARCSECOND). EACH INTERFEROMETER WILL CONSIST OF A FLAT MIRROR AND A CONCAVE MIRROR.
