The Office of Pharmaceutical Quality Research (OPQR) supports the modernization of pharmaceutical manufacturing by conducting regulatory science research on emerging technologies. Continuous process monitoring and manufacturing process control are critical for establishment of a robust process that can consistently produce product of desired quality, while identifying and mitigating manufacturing risks. Currently, OPQR possesses three Coperion K-Tron QT20 continuous powder feeders, one Coperion K-Tron KT20 continuous powder feeder, and one Coperion K-Tron MT12 continuous powder feeder. All five feeders are to be used with an integration platform. However, the integration platform lacks a mounting space for the Human Machine Interface (HMI) controllers associated with each of the five feeders that allow users to monitor and control the feeders. The five HMI controllers (Coperion K-Tron Control Modules, or "KCMs") connect to a feeder operator interface known as "K-Vision" that is used to control all five feeders from a single location. Connections to the HMI controllers, including all five KCMs and the K-Vision, are required to be installed in order to integrate the feeders into a CM line for operation under supervised conditions.
