Research abstract

We will extend development of the advanced signal processing algorithmMaterial Identification Reflectivity Kernel (MIRK) with the aim oftransitioning it to the ARCI AxB program and integration into the AN/SQS-53CActive Hull Mounted Sonar System. Prometheus will develop appropriatesystem-specific compensation algorithms, decision architecture and processingstream computer code to integrate MIRK into the AN/SQS-53C. MIRK will beincorporated into existing software. No hardware changes in the AN/SQS-53CARCI sonar system are envisioned, thus providing a highly cost effectiveapproach for deploying the MIRK performance improvement. Based on the use ofMIRK with other sonar signal processing, our goal is a 25% or greaterreduction in false alarms with no loss of true targets.
