Research abstract

Challenges in the assessment of fatigue and durability of rotorcraft dynamic components require reliable fatigue analysis. As appropriate to the geometry and loading conditions and load cycle content, fatigue analysis need to be carried out in time, frequency, or hybrid time and frequency domain. Uniaxial fatigue analysis is fairly well understood and tools are available to deal with in both time and frequency domain methods. However, both formulations and tools are lacking to conduct multiaxial fatigue analysis in random vibratory loading situations. Therefore, to reliably assess fatigue damage and remaining useful life, multiaxial fatigue analysis tools are needed in frequency and hybrid time and frequency domain situations. TDA is therefore proposing to develop analysis tools to carry out multiaxial fatigue analysis in random vibratory loading situation addressing effects of load interaction and changes in dynamic response of the structure. Verification and validation of the developed methodology are going to be performed through experimental tests. The proposed analysis tool will allow users to perform fatigue analysis and visualize the evolution of damage map on the entire structure. The tool will enable users to investigate different loading situations and make informed decisions on the durability of the part in service.
