Research abstract

The result of this project will be the integration of the advanced, high-fidelity physics-based hydrocode, EPIC, into the DoDs Modular Effectiveness Vulnerability Assessment (MEVA) code. This will be accomplished by integrating a flexible, open-source, application integration infrastructure called IMPACT, developed and supported by Illinois Rocstar, into Endgame Framework. To address the need for higher fidelity models such as EPIC into Endgame Framework, Illinois Rocstar will develop an extension to MEVA that allows for general coupling with high-fidelity modeling tools. IMPACT will be used to call EPIC as a library directly from within MEVA, while also facilitating remote execution of EPIC runs on remote high-performance computing hardware. This development will minimize the need for expert-level user knowledge in generation of simulation results with these high-performance modeling tools. The capability to automatically discretize complex geometry directly from Endgame Framework/MEVA was developed and demonstrated as part of the Phase I effort. The Endgame Framework user interface will be augmented to allow selection of EPIC. The new user interface will assist in running the tool in the same fashion that Endgame Framework currently interacts with the user. The ultimate goal is to enable use of EPIC seamlessly as a part of Endgame Framework.
