Research abstract

With the sometimes-complex airspace surrounding airports, commonly called the terminal airspace (TA), the dense traffic and dynamic nature of aircraft movements, current sense and avoidance techniques and technologies begin to breakdown. As such unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) then require additional operator workload to navigate through, around and into this TA. Bihrle Applied Research intends to further develop the TeRminal Area Conflict Estimation System (TRACES) to provide additional situational awareness to the UAS operators through the synthesis of several input digital data sources to create volumes of concerns and if necessary alerting to potential volume conflicts.
