Research abstract

Building on the successfully completed Phase I SBIR project, an innovative method for titanium 6Al-4V blade repair is proposed for development and maturation during the Phase II effort. Upon completion of development and qualification, this IBD (integrally bladed disk) blade repair process will be applicable to F119 and F135 titanium alloy IBD blades. IBD blades are susceptible to damage beyond blend limits, thus defining the need for the repair process. This proposed technology will demonstrate repair methods to restore the IBD blades for return of the component to an operational engine. Effective repair methods will expand the sustainment window and lower overall total cost of ownership.
