Research abstract

Current radar systems are driven by sensing requirements in the field. Today, and even more so in the future, the operation of these systems will be plagued by heterogeneous threats, each seeking to counter the sensing capability with different types of countermeasures. The traditional approach to solving this problem would be to introduce multiple individual systems (sensors and effectors) into the solution space. We view this as an inefficient and ineffective approach to solving asymmetric threats. As a game changing approach to the future battlespace, we envision a more flexible system configuration which increases the modality of future radar architectures through an RF Node architecture. Spear Research defines radar waveform diversity as the ability to transmit and receive specialized waveforms that enhance existing radar capabilities and execute alternate missions beyond standard radar functions.
