Research abstract

Under Phase I, Altex developed a Clean Multi-Fuel Soft Wall Shelter Heater System (CMF-HEAT) that in addition to fossil fuels, operates on field available biomass and waste. A test unit was developed that was demonstrated on JP-8, diesel fuel, wood pellets, wood chunks and mixed wastes, and achieved over 50% liquid fuel savings. Under the proposed Phase II Base project, an Alfa prototype will be built and tested in the laboratory. These tests and analysis will be used to compare the CMF-HEAT weight, volume and performance with the Marine Corps requirements. Under the proposed Option project, a Beta prototype will be fabricated and tested at HDT Global facilities, which are capable of simulating the field environment. Throughout the proposed program, HDT Global, under subcontract to Altex, will review the heater’s design and fabrication method, so that after conclusion of the proposed work the heater is ready for a rapid transition to the Marine Corps, and subsequent commercialization.
