Research abstract

In the Phase II effort, CEI will develop a state-of-the-art, ruggedized, Direct Band Pass, Under-sampled, Analog-to-Digital Converter (DBPU ADC) receiver targeted for the AN/SPS 49A(V) (SPS-49) search radar as part of the SPS-49 technical refresh with relevance to other applications as well. The DBPU ADC will directly replace the multi-step Intermediate Frequency (IF) analog conversion with direct-to-digital conversion; no super heterodyne mixing stages required (see Figure 1). The benefit of this conversion includes reduced noise and instability, reduced part count, increased Digital Signal Processing (DSP) flexibility and lower Total Operation Cost (TOC). CEI will utilize decades of expertise in EW, radar, ADC board design, Radio Frequency (RF) and DSP to successfully research, develop, integrate, test and commercialize this state-of-the-art technology.
