Research abstract
Extend and transition ADIEN semantic technology capabilities into Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) information retrieval capabilities to support the development of semantic search capabilities and further enhance underlying technology components.A robust and modular set of web services will be researched and developed that can seamlessly integrate with DTICs document repositories. These services will accept unstructured text from a user that is input through DTICs document search web interface. This text will be processed through the Content Analysis Pipeline and the extracted phrases aligned to an ontology; specifically, to the DTIC Thesaurus. Research into generating a semantically enhanced search and effective ranking algorithms to retrieve a ranked list of documents will consume the majority of the effort.
