Research abstract

Signature Research proposes to develop and demonstrate reliable, robust and effective methods for physically accurate and timely representation of dynamic, thermally active vehicles moving within operationally realistic terrains and surroundings needed to support missile-borne seeker development, system-level performance evaluations, military utility assessments and mission planning. The overall effort in Phase I will focus on the development of the software requirements, specifications and architecture for an open source, Government-owned, next generation ground vehicle model. Our proposed goal is to develop the required software, database and interface control documentation in Phase I that can lead to a generalized fidelity formulation and prototype in Phase II. The effort to develop the dynamic vehicle model will accommodate software and hardware advances through a modular, plug-in framework, ensure interoperability with external modules and applications through an open, well documented and stable API, and leverage existing modeling and hardware technologies. The generalized fidelity formulation will allow the simulation community to determine the adequacy and suitability of the dynamic vehicle model for their specific simulation implementation and application, including testing of EO/IR sensors. The dynamic vehicle model techniques and tools may function either stand-alone or in combination with other client users.
