Research abstract

Effective Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Command and Control (C2) have long been a high priority need for the Navy and Department of Defense (DoD). Communication is essential for enabling UAV applications. A major challenge in the rapidly growing UAV secure command, control, and communications area is ensuring the transmission of critical information in Anti-Access Area-Denial (A2AD) bandwidth-limited environments.ADEPT (A Software-defined QoS Adaptation Tool For Multiple UAV Missions) is a software enhancement to any existing or emerging multi-UAV control system (MUCS), such as the Common Control System (CCS), the Tactical Control System (TCS), or the ICOMC2, which enables resilient C2 of multiple UAVs in communications impaired environments. When impairments to the UAV C2 links occur, ADEPT will reconfigure the network using appropriate QoS techniques to ensure the delivery of high-priority C2 flows to their destinations.
