Research abstract

In this 27 month effort OEwaves Inc. will define and develop a design, and demonstrate a prototype model of a low noise, narrow-linewidth laser/master oscillator for coherent LADAR system applications on air platforms. The laser prototype will operate at approximately 2,000 nm wavelength, will be characterized with small size, weight, and power and will have the best known spectral purity and stability for the device of the given volume of the entire package of 100 cubic centimeters. The instantaneous linewidth of the laser will not exceed 10 Hz (see Figure 5.6 for the goal frequency noise of the laser) and long term Allan deviation of the laser frequency will be better than 2x10-7 at a day of averaging. The laser will have 20 mW at the output of a polarization maintaining fiber. The laser will perform over external temperature range of 20 to 35 degrees Celsius and will have storage ambient temperature range of -20 to 50 degrees Celsius. The device will be hermetically sealed and will have low acceleration sensitivity at the level of 10-10/g or better.
