Research abstract

There is an ever-growing need for increased battery performance in weight-sensitive and volume-constrained applications. In particular, MDA weapons systems need reserve batteries with greater power and energy density to support new mission profiles. Also needed is the ability to develop batteries with non-standard form factors to fit in systems with tight size constraints.Erigo and our collaborators at EaglePicher Technologies propose to develop a series of thermal battery prototypes using a model-based development process that leverages recent laboratory advances in cathode materials, component fabrication techniques, advanced insulation materials, and a novel quality assurance technology.
