Research abstract

The Visual Performance (VP) team proposes to design, construct, test, and refine the design of a Display Measurement Toolkit (DMT) that will allow SimCert and ISE professionals to rapidly measure display systems and compute the 14 metrics defined in the Phase I report. These metrics include: static, blend, and dynamic resolution, sampling artifact magnitude, luminance, contrast, channel and blend uniformity, absolute, relative, and blend geometry, and collimator distance, dipvergence, and distortion. VP will demonstrate and test the DMT in three alpha test events at NAWCTSD. VP will conduct two additional beta test events at two separate simulation training facilities and encompassing both rotary and fixed wing training devices. One will have a real-image display and one will have a collimated display. VP will demonstrate all 14 metrics during the alpha test events at NAWCTSD and at least nine metrics during the beta test events at the other training sites. VP will validate the correlation between performance and the metrics that differ substantially from current practice. Where sufficient data cannot be found in the literature, validation studies will be performed.
