Research abstract

A novel two-step route to HNIW (aka CL-20) will be developed to a low-cost process for the production of this important energetic material on a commercial scale. Our approach is based on the validation of our strategy by first converting a new cage intermediate developed at Nalas into CL-20 by direct nitration. Upon reaching proof-of-principle, the new route will be subjected to engineering development with an eye towards low-cost CL-20.
