Research abstract

X-wave Innovations, Inc. (XII) is developing an innovative portable themosonic imaging system (PTIS) for rapid, full-field non-destructive testing (NDT) of micro-fractures and voids in system components. The proposed PTIS combines a portable thermosonic imaging device and advanced signal processing algorithms for intelligent detection of micro fractures and voids in components made of different shapes, sizes and materials. In the Phase I program, XII successfully developed a PTIM prototype and demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed approach. In the Phase II program, XII will refine the PTIM prototype with improved hardware and software. For the Phase III program, XII will focus on transitioning the developed technology to a wide range of military and commercial applications. Approved for Public Release 15-MDA-8169 (20 March 15)
