Research abstract

SciMax Technologies proposes to design a modular and innovative CH-53K Cargo Floor Panels that meets the static and dynamic flight and landing load requirements for palletized cargo & axial vehicles while being durable, damage tolerant, significantly lighter than the baseline aluminum design. SciMax Technologies' CH-53K Cargo Floor System phase-I features an in depth trade study with structural, weight and cost analysis to derive the best possible solution for the floor and its intended use to support palletized cargo and axial vehicles. The analysis includes multiple potential solutions in Thermoplastic and Thermoset, performing preliminary floor panel design types, using cabin treadway as the baseline to demonstrate feasibility by analysis that the structure will support the specified cargo loads. The floor panel configurations will be optimized for long life durability, damage tolerance and low weight. The modular floor panel configuration will adapt to use existing cargo handling systems. During the Option, a Dem/Val; Component is fabricated and tested to demonstrate/validate the producibility and impact damage tolerance of the selected configuration. Phase I and Option conclude with the preliminary design and structural integrity analysis for evaluation by the Navy, leading to the Validation and Prototyping in Phase II of the program.
