Research abstract

The goal of this project is to develop a diagnostic tool based on immunoassays that can rapidly and reliably detect open globe ocular wounds in the field, to improve outcomes for both military warfighters and the civilian market.  In the previous Phase II program, this prototype assay was demonstrated to be highly sensitive to open globe injury biomarkers at physiological conditions and robust to potential interferents.  The goals of this sequential Phase II program are to further increase the performance characteristics of the device, source and validate all required components of the assay kit, manufacture lots of refined prototypes at pilot scales, and validate these manufactured prototypes in terms of meeting the stability and sensitivity requirements, in comparison with current gold standard methods for open globe injury diagnosis.
