Research abstract

With discrete event or time stepped techniques, modeling and simulation (M & S) systems inefficiently utilize their expensive hardware platforms by idly waiting for results from slower model elements. Optimistic execution allows faster elements to"work ahead"but makes implementations much more complex, e.g., support for hypothetical timelines and speculative results that may need to be undone or rolled back. In Phase I, deciBel Research and Galois showed the potential and technical feasibility of an Optimistic Software Development Kit (OSDK). Being part of the Objective Simulation Framework (OSF) team, deciBel will add Teledyne Brown Engineering to the Phase II effort and bring OSDK to an initial capability level. For demonstration of improved development of optimistic simulations in the design, coding, and maintenance phases, the team will adapt to optimistic execution in OSF deciBel Research"s dBTools suite for radar M & S. The team will also integrate traditional dBTools into OSF in order to provide a baseline for performance analysis. Following successful Phase II execution, deciBel Research will commercialize OSDK in Phase III by fielding the product in support of a large prime on an Missile Defense Agency M & S effort.
