Research abstract

In response to Navy SBIR topic N201-003, Triton Systems, Inc. and Squirrel, LLC propose the continued testing and improvement of the Augmented Parachute System (APS), a Powered Paraglider (PPG) with Increased Capabilities for the USMC.  The developed system has improved range, payload capacity, and user-centric design which enables USMC personnel mobilized air transit between two locations. This second Phase II effort will build on the proven capability demonstrated by the Phase I & first Phase II contracts, resulting in a production ready system in FY26. This will include the completion of qualification and performance testing, as well as finalizing all technical data for initial production. It will also allow pre-planned process improvements to begin to further improve the initial design. The team will evaluate all major components of the system, including advanced light weight fabrics currently in domestic development, for areas of improvement. Part of this evaluation will include canvasing the broader DoD for similar requirements that could be built into APS. The improvements will then be designed, tested, and reviewed with the USMC from a cost-benefit standpoint. Once down-selected, the improvements will be documented for approval and incorporated into the system configuration data.
