Research abstract

Solid-state thin film battery (TFB) is a new class of battery which has longer life, higher energy density, and safer than the Li-ion and Li-polymer batteries. Front Edge Technology has demonstrated the feasibility of producing large capacity, high energy density, and high specific energy TFB for potential military applications. The objective of this proposed work is to address the scale-up issues identified in the prior work of this program and demonstrate the feasibility of cost effective manufacturing of TFB. This proposed work will also demonstrate building TFB with 50-ƒÝm thick cathode on metal foil. This will open up the possibility of building large sheet of high energy density battery.
