Research abstract

The U.S. Army Natick Soldier RD&E Center (NSRDEC) and Army Materiel Systems Analysis Activity (AMSAA) are leading an effort to develop a robust constructive force-on-force simulation that accurately represents individual Ground Soldiers (GS) and dismounted Small Combat Units (SCU). The purpose of the simulation is to perform operational effectiveness assessments. One of several important factors contributing to these assessments is the impact and value of information, both in terms of the availability of specific information elements and the uncertainties associated with each. The goal of this SBIR effort is to provide a more realistic representation of battlefield operational activities by incorporating uncertainties to reflect how it impacts GS situational awareness and decision-making processes. In Phase I of this contract, DECISIVE ANALYTICS Corporation demonstrated the feasibility of adapting our mature probabilistic Inference Engine into the Army Probabilistic Inference and Decision Engine (Army-PRIDE) to provide improved representation of Situational Awareness within dismounted GS/SCU constructive simulations. During Phase II we will complete a full-scale prototype system, using a formal Knowledge Engineering process to develop a robust set of GS Situational Awareness and Decision models. At the end of Phase II Army-PRIDE will be immediately available for transition to support the customer’s mission requirements.
