Research abstract

Lakota Technical Solutions, Inc. proposes to develop Janus, a novel solution for resource and power management on multi- and many-core architectures running numerous legacy and non-legacy applications. The Janus technology will incorporate both static source code analysis and runtime application execution analysis in order to drive dynamic resource and power management decisions including the allocation of processes/threads to cores. Janus technology will mitigate the risk of performance degradation that may occur on multi- and many-core architectures by generating process-to-core allocations that minimize the likelihood of memory and resource contentions. Additionally, Janus’ dynamic power management capabilities will provide an opportunity to reduce power expenditures by taking advantage of software-controllable chip features such as frequency/voltage scaling and circuit gating.
