Research abstract

Physical Sciences Inc. proposes to develop a small and light broadband Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) for VHF LOS communication for naval air vehicles. This antenna will involve minimal protrusion from the body of the aircraft to reduce drag as well as the risk of ice accumulation introduced by blade antenna technologies. Moreover, it does not require fuselage penetration as do cavity backed antennas. The proposed DRA is made of a new lightweight composite material of high dielectric constant. A preliminary proof-of concept antenna design and material fabrication demonstration is included in the proposal.
