Research abstract

For Phase II, Kutta proposes the System of Modular Adaptable Reusable Tools (SMART) solution to produce a software and hardware product capable of providing the warfighter with dramatic reductions in cognitive workload across multiple platforms and applications. The SMART product provides the Army with a unified library of decision aids capable of reuse across current and future force products that increases warfighter mission effectiveness, networked lethality, and survivability. Kutta’s SMART product provides the warfighter with a multitude of interface options and expansion possibilities through the highly modular software and hardware architecture. Through SMART Kutta also develops a unique, highly flexible, componentized multi-vehicle control hardware product that directly leverages current Ground Control Station programs. Kutta has specifically addressed the Army’s need for reusability by demonstrating the SMART capability as a library of plug-ins for the Army’s Firestorm product that can effectively assist commanders with mission execution in highly dynamic environments. The SMART provides the Army with a highly adaptable reusable product that combines modular decision aids designed to increase mission safety and execution capabilities with a hardware device utilizing the same library of decision aids that can be utilized as a modular multi-vehicle controller or integrated directly onboard the unmanned platform.
