Research abstract

The primary technical objective will be to develop both moderate and high fidelity transducer computer programs. The moderate fidelity program would allow sonar system designers to evaluate transducers for a given system requirement. Transducer designers would, with more details, design the transducer with the higher fidelity FEA model. During the Phase I program we used the Tonpilz transducer as a specific example for both moderate and high fidelity transducer design programs. The programs were evaluated and compared with additional FEA and distributed matrix transmission line TRN models. During the Phase II program and Option, we would develop models for cylindrical, trioid, slotted cylinder and flextensional transducers to be used for evaluating single crystal driven designs, in addition to implementing improvements in the original Tonpilz piston programs. We also plan to improve the fabricated single crystal TR 364 element as well as fabricate and test planar and curved arrays of these elements.
