Research abstract

There have been a number of clinical decision support (CDS) implementations that were incorporated into EHRs, but significant obstacles prevented the ability for its widespread and universal use. Many of the current CDS implementations typically rely on a one-off, ad-hoc type implementation for a proprietary system. Clinical guidelines encoded in one EHR system may not work with the data format of the patient records in another system. In addition, there is no industry standard for coding the clinical guidelines, which further inhibits the general use of clinical guidelines among EHR systems. The proposed Phase II effort will develop a system to overcome these obstacles.
