Research abstract

United States servicemen and women need an improved understanding of and appreciation for the impact of culture. In response to this requirement, the MYMIC Team will develop an Adaptive Game for Culture, a serious game to deliver relevant cultural skills training to the Marine and Soldier. In order to maximize the application of cultural skills training, we will focus the training on acquisition of general concepts for cultural knowledge, skills, and abilities. We will also utilize the science of augmented cognition to tailor the learning experience to the cognitive state of the trainee. Most importantly, we will implement the most nonintrusive means of cognitive state assessment to minimize disruption and ensure usability. The MYMIC Team will combine its expertise in military training with the College of William & Mary’s experience in augmented cognition applications and Anthropology-driven knowledge base of cultures worldwide to achieve this solution.
