Research abstract

This proposal describes the development of  a miniature, extremely harsh environment data recoding system.  Leveraging from the concepts and hardware developed during Phase I,  the processing power of the data recording package will be increased and the volume decreased by incorporating the high performance, high density OMAC3(POP) for the DSP function. The power consumption and heat dissipation will be decreased by incorporating switching regulators, which may require the development of a hybrid switching/linear regulator to eliminate any transients resulting from the shock environment. The  telemetry transmitter output power will be increased from 100 mW to between 1 and 5 watts and the number of channels will be increased from the six of the baseline Phase I approach to 18. A three axis sensor package will be developed incorporating  magnetometers, high-G accelerometers, and low(er) G accelerometers. The feasibility of incorporating a rechargeable  battery will be investigated. The operational embedded software and the interface software application required to extract the recorded data in a form that can be coupled to simulation models will be developed. Extensive high-G shock testing will be conducted throughout this effort  from the component and sub-assembly level to the completed assembly, to insure a successful result. BENEFITS: Syntronics core business area is development and testing of guidance and sensor systems.  By Syntronics performing the research and development of data collection systems for the Air Forces high speed penetrating weapons modeling program, we will be executing tasks that are naturally part of our business, thereby following our road map of continued technology improvement for our products.  This new technology can be used for other military and commercial applications where measurement of dynamic high energy events is needed.
