Research abstract

The large aircraft mission is particularly susceptible to old, upgraded, and new RF threats, especially RF-guided surface-to-air missiles (SAMs).   These aircraft operate in hostile environments where there is a clear need to implement innovative stand-off and standin ECM techniques to increase aircraft survivability and mission effectiveness.  Advanced simulation technologies are required that can rapidly develop/evolve/mature/demonstrate novel ECM technologies.    Programs such as the Air Forces Core Component Jammer (CCJ) and Miniature Air Launch Decoy Jammer (MALD-J) are specifically designed to provide protection for large aircraft.  In Phase I, the DRA Team evaluated multiple concepts and capabilities and developed a top level design for a Threat/Target Electronic Countermeasure Evaluation Environment (TECMEE), a real-time, high fidelity, dynamic/reactive threat/target interaction capability integratable with a laboratory multi-spectral synthetic battlespace to support the evolution/evaluation/demonstration of advanced ECM technologies.  The DRA Team will develop a new high fidelity simulation capability, the Threat/Target Electronic Countermeasure Evaluation Environment (TECMEE), which utilizes an innovative building block architecture that leverages technology enhancements to provide improved performance of legacy systems.  The TECMEE solves a critical need within the laboratory to close the loop around EA systems that may or may not be part of an integrated electronic warfare system. BENEFITS: The Phase II SBIR results shall provide a real-time innovative solution an integrated simulation environment to support advanced countermeasure evolution/evaluation/demonstration within a laboratory environment.  This simulation technology base will be leveraged to provide simulation products resulting in Phase III initiatives that address both government and commercial applications in markets such as the facility/capital asset protection from RF threat systems
