Research abstract

Building a real-time net-centric capability for sharing radar data between the Global Information Grid (GIG) and the System Wide Information Management (SWIM) network presents new and unique challenges.  Trident Systems and CloudShield Technologies propose to leverage the Quality of Service (QoS) plan and system architecture developed in Phase I to implement a full-scale prototype implementation of GIG-SWIM Gateway (GSG). The proposed solution utilizes the CS-2000 content processing platform from CloudShield. The system will support two sources of data: real-time, such as Airborne Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS_B) position data and non-real-time (XML stream). For the non-real time data, the GSG server will perform the clean/dirty word checking that will be implemented by regular expression searches. To implement the strict latency requirements for the real-time radar data, CGC will use Layer 2-7 filters to classify and tag traffics that are not possible to intercept by using filters on TCP and UDP ports.  The CS-2000s Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) capabilities will be utilized to enforce guard policies between networks.  GSG will use a combination of packet header and payload inspection in order to prevent unauthorized release of data as well as preventing malicious code from being delivered to classified networks. BENEFIT: The GSG will enable new flexibility in cross-domain exchange of near real-time data with strict latency requirements. In so doing, the CGG will provide a new net-centric capability for sharing radar data between the Global Information Grid (GIG) and the System Wide Information Management (SWIM). The proposed GSG solution may be used in private sector for secure, real-time cross-domain data transfer.  For example, in environments with real-time audio and/or video feeds those have strict latency requirements, but also have bi-directional requirements for non-real-time data transfer.  CGC can also be used by T1 providers as next generation switches to allow networks, nodes, and capabilities to be rolled out at a fraction of the cost, with substantially greater efficiency, control, and scalability. Additionally, the large service providers may use GSG capabilities to implement the robust perimeter defense, active and passive intrusion prevention, and high speed cross-domain solutions.
