Research abstract

Pointwise, Inc. proposes to integrate commonly used overset grid assembly software with its Gridgen mesh generation software to allow efficient, effective overset meshing and grid assembly. The overset process will begin with creation of overset component grids within the Gridgen software.  Within Gridgen, the component grids will be tagged with boundary and volume attributes necessary for overset grid assembly and subsequent CFD analysis.  The Gridgen software will export the mesh and attributes to the overset grid assembly software.  Gridgen will execute the overset assembly software as a background process.  Finally, Gridgen will import and display the results of the automated overset grid assembly. BENEFITS: It is anticipated that by integrating meshing software with commonly used overset grid assembly software, manpower required for CFD pre-processing of complex configurations and moving bodies could be reduced by as much as 50%.  Such a product would be directly applicable to computational analysis of moving-body aerodynamics and complex configurations of all types.
