Research abstract

Our approach is to leverage multi antenna, MIMO techniques to deliver on the throughput and range requirements without the need for a single high power PA. This will allow us to deliver with very inexpensive PA/transceiver modules. In fact the proposed solution will not require average transmit powers greater than 6 mW from any given transciver. Thus the driving theme of our proposed approach is one of baseband sophistication in exchange for cheaper and lower power RF front ends. This approach has the added benefit of providing a great deal of versatility in the achievable data rate/range combination, and leverages Silvus'''''''' current efforts under the DARPA MNM program to deliver high speed mobile wireless communicaiton. The proposed appraoch will yield a prorotype unit for field trials half way through a possible phase 2 effort.
