Research abstract

Scientific Monitoring will develop high temperature (~200C) integrated circuits for a distributed FADEC architecture for reliable turbofan engine control. The apoplication specific integrated cirucits will be developed for sensor and actuator interface and control.  The circuits will include digital signal processing capability enabling them to be semi-autonomous nodes.  Additionally, building blocks for DC to DC Power Conversion and highly temperature stable and tunable clock generators will be developed.  This work will result in a prototype demonstration at high temperature on relevant aerospace hardware.   BENEFIT: If fully successful, high temperature, reliable electronics will enable new aircraft engine distributed control systems to operate without (or with substantially reduced requirements for) fuel cooling. Today''''''''s modern military aircraft are beginning to experience severe operation or performance limitations due to the overheating of fuel. A fuel cooled FADEC is one of the major fuel heat sources. The elimination of fuel cooling would provide substantial cost savings or additional design space flexibility.
