Research abstract

Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. (ACT), supported by Texas A&M University (TAMU), proposes to develop a Momentum-driven Vortex Separator (MVS) technology for vapor and liquid management for the advanced vapor cycle Thermal Management Systems (TMS). The MVS developed at TAMU is a single component, two-phase management device that has been successfully demonstrated in various acceleration environments, ranging from microgravity to 19.6 m/s2 (2 g’s) and including inverse acceleration and random vibration. The proposed Phase I project will primarily focus on design and modeling of the integrated TMS and MVS technologies, resulting in a multiple-evaporator TNS design that will be fabricated and tested in the follow-on Phase II project.
