Research abstract

The objective of this proposal is to develop, design, and build a full size advanced hydraulic oil filter to separate dirt, free water and emulsified water from hydraulic oil for Navy submarine hydraulic systems. The prototype design will be mainly focused on the features that make it highly efficient in water/debris separation, portable and compact for easy transport in a defined shipboard environment, permanently mounted in design on shipboard for kidney operation, and sufficient in engineering safety for use in the rigorous environment of a Navy ship. In addition, FSI will conduct land-based tests at a Navy facility for the evaluation of performance, portability, reliability, and maintainability.
