Research abstract

A world-record 750 Watt coherent fiber laser array will be demonstrated in the first year of the project. This will be achieved using the experimentally demonstrated Self-Fourier (SF) cavity, which is simple and rugged, consisting only of a Fourier lens and an output coupler. There are no complicated phase adjustors as the phase locking occurs naturally due to the common feedback provided by the Fourier lens and the output coupler. The SF technology is, to our knowledge, the only technology that can be directly scaled to a weapon-class system using commercially available fiber lasers with a full-scale weapon system demonstration achievable in less than 5 years. This project will demonstrate the full potential of this technology, as we will demonstrate the scaling of the technology in both number (up to 21 elements) and power per element (up to 150 Watts per element).
