Research abstract

The Triton Systems Inc., with C.S. Draper Labs and Carpenter Steel proposes to continue the Phase I efforts developing a ricochet grille for the EFV, ultimately installing two pre-production grilles in a SDD vehicle for operational testing. The ricochet grille concept will thereby reach TRL 7, and be ready for introduction into production EFVs. Triton’s team will ensure that performance and cost requirements are met through parallel design analysis and testing. Following Preliminary Design Review (PDR), a prototype configuration will be fabricated and tested at EFV IPT. Following a Critical Design Review (CDR), and incorporation of any necessary design modifications, pre-production port and starboard grilles will be tested on an EFV. Triton’s approach in the Phase II is to combine high fidelity design analyses with testing of successively more representative mockups, pre-prototypes, and prototype grilles. The Phase I ballistic testing will be expanded to a pre-prototype configuration, providing representative three-row baffle configurations for multiple-ricochet testing. A grille mockup will be constructed to provide realistic airflow testing, providing correlations with the CFD analysis and evaluating the effects of realistic construction details on the mass flow and pressure drop. Two pre-production grilles will be fabricated for installation into an EFV SDD vehicle.
