Research abstract

General Vortex Energy, Inc. (GVE) has designed a flameless/oxidation combustion system for the next generation of propulsion and power generation systems consisting of a two-stage combustor. The flameless/oxidation combustor prototype has been built during Phase I. Combustion in flameless/oxidation mode allow to use: Less amount of air and still have a low emission of NOx, CO, CO2 and low noise, • Reduces amount of negative work for compressor allowing “clean” combustion even for stoichiometric mixture • Enables greater potential of total system efficiency for future generation of propulsion system • Utilizes excess heavy fuel after fractionization decreasing need for main gas turbine fuel blending • Multi fuel capabilities for combustor • Increases total system volumetric power density
