Research abstract

The proposed effort will implement and demonstrate novel techniques to significantly enhance the ability of space radar to track surface moving targets through the fusing of target HRR profiles with SMTI detections on multiple space radar platforms. This work builds upon our recent space radar simulation and HRR feature-aided space radar ground vehicle tracking efforts. Unlike other approaches, we do not make a priori assumptions regarding the signatures of ground targets, i.e., pre-measured HRR signature data or training data sets are not used. Hence, our method is not limited to previously characterized vehicles and is inherently robust. We intend to demonstrate space radar HRR feature-aided tracking algorithms in a multiple satellite space radar simulation with revisit intervals of 30 seconds or greater.
