Research abstract

Q-Peak proposes to develop a mid-infrared (mid-IR), 100-fs pulse, high-power laser source based on the combination of an efficient Tm:fiber-laser-pumped, Cr:ZnSe master oscillator and a power amplifier. The high peak power, femtosecond output pulses at 2.5 um will be used to pump a optical parametric generator (OPG) that will convert 2.5 um radiation into tunable mid-IR between 3 to 5 um. In addition the system can be configured for generation of pico- and nanosecond pulses in the desired spectral range. All the elements of the system proposed are based on technology that has undergone significant development at Q-Peak and continues to be advanced for applications in both Government and commercial systems. Our Phase II effort will focus on the development and construction of a high-power oscillator-regenerative amplifier laser system, configured in a transportable, modular package.
