Research abstract

Innovative Wireless Technologies, Inc. (IWT) is pleased to submit an SBIR Phase II proposal for the research and development of technologies for a Mariner Communication System (MCS). The MCS is a multi-band RF communication system to meet the Department of Navy (DON)’s need for a portable, reconfigurable, and self-healing wireless mesh network that provides voice communications, tracking, and environmental sensing in a maritime environment.IWT and DON stakeholders have identified specific technology enhancements needed to support DON missions globally. Specifically, Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) and Team Ships have provided the following research and enhancements for future and worldwide usability for the fleet and Repair and Maintenance Centers (RMC). Multi-band radio frequency spectrum support for all regions (ITU 1, 2 and 3)Rechargeable and line powered shipboard infrastructure equipmentAdditional voice channel capability for > 8 concurrent callsAES 256-bit encryption for voiceEMCON EMI/RF quiet modeFor the SBIR Phase II, IWT is proposing to research and develop the technologies listed above. As a conclusion to the Phase II efforts, IWT will demonstrate a prototype system with these capabilities in an in-situ environment (shipboard or at a designated RMC).
