Research abstract

This SBIR will design and develop a unique high-functionality network for tactical vehicles, leveraging the low latency, high bandwidth and EMI resistance of optical systems with the affordability of electronic networks. The basic system hardware has been developed and is currently used on military platforms, so this effort will focus on adapting aircraft networks to cost-sensitive ground vehicle applications. The configuration of the system must be optimized to make the best use of optical data links and access to the optical part of the network will be seamless at the depot level. Low latency for critical signals will be preserved, while at the same time allowing multiple independent protocols to run over the same bus.
