Research abstract

A large segment of munitions engage targets on the ground at shallow angles. In many of these a proximity fuze is desirable to increase the effectiveness on the munition, however, because of the shallow angle approach, ground clutter often appears in the viewing volume of the proximity sensor. Analysis conducted during Phase 1 of this program indicated that signal processing technique would greatly improve the sensors immunity to clutter and reduce early functions result from clutter in the target signal bandwidth. This Phase 2 program will develelop an implementation of this technique and apply it to the Apache 30-mm gun system.
