Research abstract

Cosite interference, or self-jamming, occurs whenever operation of transmitting RF equipment interferers with operation of co-located receiving equipment. Ordinarily, such interference is avoided by design, through use of frequency separation, temporal separation or spatial separation. Oftentimes, however, the missions and constraints of military platforms preclude such straightforward solutions. For example, an electronic attack mission may require simultaneous operation of communications equipment and a high-powered jamming transmitter. Or, a UAV may need to transmit telemetry and collect SIGINT simultaneously. To solve these problems, GIRD Systems during Phase I evaluated several interference mitigation methods and selected two candidate methods. In Phase II GIRD Systems will build a prototype system implementing these methods, test the results, and demonstrate the proof-of-concept.
