Research abstract

Currently fast running penetration algorithms, such as FATEPEN, TATE, or Walker-Anderson, are used to rapidly determine the damage imparted to targets by threats, but ultimately can’t treat events where damage done by the threat is highly dependent on the response of the target. One possible solution to this problem is to create a set of threats that could be modeled by current fast running algorithms, such as fragments and simple blasts that accurately reproduce the damage caused by more complex threats like multiple fragments, or reactive projectiles. A standardized methodology is needed for creating this frag-blast equivalent threat, so that different reactive projectiles, or multi-frag threats can be compared. This is the objective of this SBIR. RHAMM Technologies, LLC has combined its modeling and simulation expertise with General Sciences, Inc’s firsthand knowledge and experimental expertise to create a first rate team, well positioned to develop the analytical tools needed to credibly enhance predictions of the lethality of reactive materials and fragment flood loading events.
