Research abstract

The Data Link Test Community has identified the need for early availability of test tools to support the initial deployment and integration of new waveforms and their associated data links. During the SBIR Phase I, TCG has identified system level requirements for the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Wideband Network Waveform (WNW) Host Simulator (JWHS) and developed a preliminary conceptual design. The functional and information exchange requirements for the WNW Test Tool include those items needed to support the Airborne Network, perform network management, and to control the JTRS device interface. In Phase II, TCG will apply a spiral development process to incrementally develop an operational prototype for the JWHS. In close liaison with the customer, TCG will prioritize needed functionality and implement iterative versions for evaluation and feedback. The system will take advantage of the proven Tactical Communications Manager (TCM) architecture for modularity and distributed processing. As a technique to manage risk, cost, and schedule, the system interface will reuse existing IP application protocols that are well understood and supported by commercial products.
