Research abstract
During our customer discovery, we found that many adults in rural areas want to make informed food decisions but often face obstacles like limited internet access, cell phone coverage, outdated or hard-to-understand nutrition advice, and online platforms cluttered with distractions. This project addresses that need by developing wigwagâ„¢, a digital tool designed for people who prefer to learn and decide on their own terms. Wigwagâ„¢ cuts through the noise to deliver clear, science-backed meal planning support that works on any smartphone, tablet or computer and can be used with wi-fi, ethernet or cellular network. The platform brings together experts in nutrition, design, and rural accessibility to create a simple, no-nonsense app. It helps users find local personalized meal ideas with easy-to-follow information and visuals in both English and Spanish. Community feedback will directly shape how the app looks, feels, and speaks so it stays focused on what users truly want: useful answers, not lectures or health gimmicks.By giving rural residents, a clear, customizable way to plan meals through self-guided learning and local food awareness. If successful, this model can expand nationwide helping more people take charge of their food choices while also strengthening rural economies through practical, tech-forward solutions.
